Anger can be a powerful catalyst for change, Gillian May, and — at the time — it was the kick up the jacksie I needed to get going.
In a similar vein, it is anger that keeps my stepmom alive in the face of Stage IV cancer but… anger is exhausting. And hazardous to our own health and that of others if left unchecked.
I lost mine fairly early on when I got back to writing and my stepmom is now running out of steam while my father has embraced what he called “serenity”, i.e. resignation but I guess we all adopt the spin that redeems, don’t we?
The only way forward is to embrace all that we are, including trauma.
Nothing human is shameful, and the more open we are, the less daunting it is.
Anger destroys; love builds.
