Thanks for the mention, Marley K. I wonder why so few immigrants speak up about issues many of us encounter. Is it because they’re afraid to lose face? Because America is supposed to represent the best of everything?
I’ve just spent 3 months trying to explain my American reality to my parents and they’re… shocked. Incredulous. The absence of health care for all is unthinkable to them and a human rights violation, pretty much.
And then there’s the tragic politics that no longer make the rest of the world laugh. Instead, the default reaction seems to be pity, which is the worst.
