You’re not wrong about the social media monster. I still can’t wrap my head around the second screen phenomenon for example, perhaps because I’m too old. While my smartphone is always by my side as I don’t wear a watch, if I’m watching a movie, I focus on it fully. One screen is plenty enough.

As for FB and Reddit, I refuse to join the first and only ever peruse the second for research…
