These are most of the same thoughts I've been wrestling with over the last few weeks, despite my geographical coordinates. I never felt like I belonged in America either, which is why I never came back from Europe. My stepmom's cancer unlocked my 'immigrant privilege', i.e. a former home with universal health care I could go back to. Life is definitely weird.

As for Medium, it is allegedly changing but I have no idea how long it will take for this to be reflected in what the algorithm chooses to elevate and share. So far, no good, at least for me.

But the point you make about free speech is essential: Regardless of whether anyone listens, regardless of how exhausted and disheartened we may all be, we cannot afford to fall silent. Not now. This is the last stretch... xo
