This was specifically about panic buying, not about those folks who usually make the most of special offers by purchasing multiples.

Although it’s a smart move that can add up to substantial savings, it requires the kind of cashflow not everyone has.

In that sense, my dad’s hoarding habits (he’s unable to resist special offers or discounts) have served him well. So he didn’t have to rush to the store, and much less raid it.

How we handle occasional shortages in a crisis situation will determine how we move forward and get through this.

Panic is an expression of fear, which is highly communicative, and hoarding is an attempt at control, which we don’t have.

That’s why political leadership matters so very much right now as it has the power to reassure and calm people.
